Recipe Ingredients

- Ice cream: Any other high quality brand will work. You could even use a peppermint ice cream or chocolate ice cream.
- Milk: I used whole milk which adds a creamier taste, but you can use any type.
- Peppermint extract: This is different than mint extract, which is usually spearmint.
- Peppermint candy canes: Crushing them will make them easier to mix in to the peppermint shake. I crush extra for garnish. You can also use peppermint candies.
- Chocolate chips: I used semi-sweet chocolate chips but any will work even chopped chocolate bar. Shaved chocolate would taste great too.
How to Make a Chick-Fil-A Peppermint Milkshake
Layer your ingredients in a high power blender with the milk first, softened vanilla ice cream next, peppermint extract and crushed candy canes. Blend until smooth.
Add chocolate chips and pulse a few times. Top with whipped cream and additional candy canes.
Recipe Tips
- Peppermint bark: If you have leftover Christmas peppermint bark, it could used in this Chick-Fil-A peppermint milkshake in place of crushed candy canes and chocolate chips.
- Layering in the blender: Always place liquid ingredients first to help the blender blade to rotate easily. I find that it helps to soften my ice cream, too.
- Thicker shake: Add more ice cream for a thicker peppermint chip milkshake. Do not add ice, it will water it down and change the consistency.
- Thinner shake: Add more milk until desired consistency is reached.
- Dairy free candy cane milkshake: Replace with your favorite dairy-free vanilla ice cream that is oat, soy or nut-based. I find that oat based ice cream and milk is creamier.
- Garnish: For a real holiday treat, garnish with homemade whipped cream, a candy cane or maraschino cherry and crushed candy cane pieces.

Recipe FAQs
Our family never has this issue when I make it during the holiday season. 🙂
A milkshake is best served immediately for best taste and quality. You could place it in the freezer but it will freeze and need to be blended again for desired shake consistency.
If you would like a more mild peppermint flavor, use only of the peppermint extract. Just don’t use mint extract or your shake will taste like toothpaste.
The best way to get both pieces for the shake and powder for garnish, is to place the candy canes in a ziploc bag and roll over them with a rolling pin or smash them with a meat mallet (on the smooth side).
