  • Olive oil: A good quality extra virgin olive oil that has a rich, bold taste is best.
  • Dried seasonings: Italian seasoning and flaky sea salt. Flaky sea salt is best as it does not sink to the bottom of the dish like regular salt would do.
  • Fresh herbs: Fresh basil and parsley add fresh, sweet, peppery flavor.
  • Balsamic vinegar: For a sweet and tangy balanced taste. Alternatively, drizzle the dish with balsamic glaze instead.
  • Garlic: Fresh minced garlic adds sharp taste with another layer of savory flavor. Garlic powder could be used in a pinch, but fresh really adds the best taste!

Substitutions and Variations

Take this oil mixture to the next level with any of these additions:

  • Parmesan cheese: Freshly grate Parmesan cheese over the top of the olive oil bread dip.
  • Red pepper flakes: Chili flakes add a small amount of heat. Black pepper can be added, too.
  • Dried herbs: Dried oregano or marjoram would add amazing taste. Using dried spices only will remind you of Carrabba’s bread dip.
  • Fresh herbs: Fresh thyme or fresh rosemary could be added or used instead of parsley and basil.
  • Lemon zest: The zest of one lemon would add bright flavor to the olive oil dip.
