- Cool Whip: Whipped topping makes the candy have a light as air texture and classic taste. You can also use homemade Cool Whip.
- Milk chocolate chips: Use a quality chocolate chip since there are so few ingredients in this recipe.
- Melting wafers: I love to use the Ghirardelli brand. You can use milk chocolate or dark chocolate melting wafers although for a true copycat version use a milk chocolate coating.
How to Make Cool Whip Candy
Place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and melt in microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval. After chocolate has cooled, fold in 1/2 tub of thawed Cool Whip.
Pour mixture into prepared parchment lined baking dish. Freeze until hard then cut into squares and place back in the freezer.
Freeze for 30-60 minutes, or until hardened. Cut into 12-16 squares and place onto parchment paper lined baking sheet. Return squares to freezer for at least 30 more minutes.
Melt chocolate wafers in a bowl until smooth. Remove candy from freezer and dip into melted chocolate. Place on parchment paper and store in freezer until ready to serve.
Recipe Tips
- Pan size: You can use an 8-inch square, Cool Whip candy will be thinner.
- Fold until combined. Keep folding the Cool Whip and chocolate together even if the chocolate starts to harden. This ensures that the 3 Musketeers candy has a creamy and smooth texture.
- Chocolate type: Milk, dark chocolate chips or even white chocolate chips can be used for a different flavors. Use good quality chocolate as it melts smoother and some cheaper brands could lead to a chalky taste.
- Chill time: I made these 1/2 batch of Cool Whip candy at a time, keeping the rest in the freezer because they can get soft quickly.
- Holidays: Homemade 3 Musketeers are perfect for decorating! Use Christmas sprinkles, Halloween or Valentine’s Day; match the sprinkle color to fit the occasion.
